Vintage Carpenter's Plane "1919" CrazyLamp

Celebrating its centenary in 2019 - this piece represents Rekindled Yard's ethos of reusing, recycling and recreating perfectly.
Born in Glasgow to Mathieson & Son - raised by students and artisans in Belfast!
Marked "1919" this 100+ year old plane found its way to The Belfast Municipal Technical Institute - a wonderful collector item, with so much history! Opened in 1907 - locally known as the ‘The Black Man Tech’, this college of technology was a state of the art facility in the early 20th Century. The college name came from the original statue on the site; the first public statue in Belfast, which was erected in 1855 to commemorate Fredrick Richard, Earl of Belfast (his courtesy title as heir to the 3rd Marquis of Donegall). The statue was dark bronze and some say that it was later painted black due to weathering making it look rather mottled. Soon the famous, listed building was known as ‘THE BLACK MAN’ and became one of Belfast's best loved rendezvous spots and noted landmarks in the City.

Industrial Steampunk Esso CrazyLamp
This vintage "Esso Blue Paraffin" fuel can was rescued and upcycled to create a stunning talking point for the home or work space. (estimate circa 1950-70s).
The fuel can, with its worn and battered look, was gently cleaned to retain original paintwork and surface rust. Recycled 22mm copper piping along with a vintage "hot" enamel tap top (Tiber 1845) were used to create the lamp fitting. Looks great with a vintage style filament bulb, as pictured.

A vintage German made Dietz® Guardsman #90 D-Lite kerosene storm lantern, converted to an electric lamp. Vintage patina as comes with age, which adds to that historic feel. A little history...
Considered the best lantern of its day, the D-Lite was introduced in 1912.
The metallic blue was adopted in 1949 and in 1957 Dietz ceases production of D-Lite lanterns.

Industrial CrazyLamp
​
This handmade piece represents Rekindled Yard's ethos of reusing, recycling and recreating perfectly. Mother Nature's "beauty" softens the cold steel of the "beast". The stunning caramel swirls in the Laburnum Golden Chain log were accentuated by Mr RY's 50/50 mix of Danish and Boiled Linseed oils, after being sanded by hand. A reclaimed car brake disc was sealed in lacquer to create the base and house the high visibility cable - adding to the industrial style. The 22mm thick copper piping and brass compression fittings hold the shade, which was cut and shaped by hand from a recycled washing machine drum, finished with copper wire stitching detail. Random holes of varying sizes were drilled to diffuse light and cast interesting shapes and shadows.
